Original YTMND:
Vegeta, what does the scouter say about his power level?

Worthy Spinoffs:

Vegeta or Prince Vegeta is a fictional character, villain, anti-hero and later hero in the manga and anime Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball GT. He is the prince of the fallen Saiyan race, archrival to Son Goku and a powerful warrior.

His name can be considered a pun on either vegetable or the condiment vegeta.

Vegeta is known as much for his arrogance as for his fighting skill. He uses a device called a scouter to measure the power level of opponents in advance of a fight. In one episode, he angrily and excitedly yells out that that Goku's power level is "OVER NINE THOUSAAAAAND!!", crushing the scouter in his hand as he does so.

The Video

On October 17th, a 4channer posted a video involving this scene on YouTube. The 2 minute video played around with the short scene, messing around with the quote as well as Nappa's words just before Vegeta uttered "Nine Thousand". The video was originally supposed to be an inside joke on 4chan, but quickly became popular across the Internet.

On YTMND

It eventually made its way to YTMND in a fashion similar to that of past fads like Moskau, O RLY, and Chuck Norris. Sites come in 2 varieties:

This quote has formed the basis of a fad in which Vegeta (or a subpar impersonator) yells about various things, such as his telephone bill, the national debt, or the price of a PS3, being "over 9000".
