NEDM, acronym for Not Even Doom Music, is a YTMND fad inspired in response to a YTMND site depicting animal cruelty. NEDM sites typically feature imagery of cats and/or chapstick, accompanied by the sound of the letters "N, E, D, M" (as spoken by a text-to-speech program), and music from Coburn's "We Interrupt This Programme (Jean Claude Ades remix)".

Career
According to the nedminvestigation, "HelterSkelter", a forum user at Ogrish.org posted a link to a video in July 2005, which featured a man setting a live cat on fire. Although Ogrish.com is dedicated to unpleasant and disturbing multimedia, the video struck a nerve with other forum users, and they demanded action be taken against the people behind the video. After tracing the video to a Belgian ISP, Ogrish.com administrators alerted the authorities and PETA to the situation, and offered a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of those responsible. Eventually, the teenager who first uploaded the video was arrested and shortly afterward the man who actually burned the cat turned himself in.

Sheen's film career began in 1984, and his first major role was in Platoon (1986).  In 1987, he starred with his father, Martin, in Wall Street.

The Happy Cat image featured in many NEDM YTMND's can be originally traced to Happy Cat, a Russian cat food company.
+
Sheen is perhaps best known for his comedy roles, including the Major League films and the Hot Shots! films. In 2000, Sheen played himself in the comedy Being John Malkovich.

Origin of the Fad
+
In 2001 and 2002 Sheen played the lead role in the political television sitcom, Spin City (as Michael J. Fox's replacement on that show). In 2002 he won the Golden Globe Award for "Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series - Musical or Comedy" for this role (Awards detailed below). Currently Sheen plays the role of Charlie Harper on the sitcom Two and a Half Men, which debuted in 2003.
Following the arrests, authorities shut down all possible links to the video on the Internet. However, footage of the burning briefly resurfaced when when a YTMND site was created by user Baron. The site featured images from the video and music from the computer game "Doom". The site was deleted within hours of creation, but not before many YTMND users had voted on it. However, the comments on the original cat-burning YTMND disappeared with its deletion. Outraged that anyone would give to a site glorifying cat immolation, user Titanium-Gecko began to downvote all sites created by users who had five-starred the burning kitten YTMND.
+

The site was upvoted by a number of people. Among them was user Spotz. After noticing that all of his sites had been downvoted by Titanium-Gecko, he explained that he only upvoted the burning kitten YTMND for the "irony of using the Doom bunny music", not because he condoned or approved of the actual burning of the cat as seen in the image. Even though Spotz explained this on one of Titanium-Gecko's tgflip, on April 12, 2006 Titanium-Gecko left the now-legendary comment on Spotz's spotz: "Nothing justifies 5'ing burning kittens. Not even Doom music."
+
Breast cancer advocate
 +
Sheen was the 2004 spokesperson for the Lee National Denim Day breast cancer fundraiser that raised millions of dollars for research and education regarding the disease. Sheen stated that a friend of his died due to breast cancer, and he wanted to try to help find a cure for the disease.

Inspired by this altercation, YTMND user moheevi created the nedm using Jean Claude Ades's remix of We Interrupt this Program, followed by several others. At first, NEDM sites simply featured the cryptic letters "NEDM", with no explanation given as to what they meant, such as AwesomeBob's "nedmiscoming"  Eventually, moheevi created a site using the kj23dfh238uf image, which Stratos-the-Bratos saw and used for the third NEDM the-nedm-has-you. After seeing one of StarOnion's yourekiddingme, Moheevi updated the original site to include this picture, with the infamous 'chapstick' quote.
+
9/11 conspiracy theories
Few people understood the joke behind the NEDM sites until Spotz explained it on the YTMND forums, and revealed the story of the now-deleted burning kitten YTMND, and Titanium-Gecko's one-man crusade against it. Since then, the NEDM fad still remains somewhat misunderstood. The creators of the fad state that it in no way supports animal cruelty. It simply means "Not Even Doom Music can get you a rating of five stars" (because the site is usually bad or random); NEDM can be applied to anything, not only animal cruelty. Because of this, the fad is one of the most varied on YTMND.

On March 20, 2006, Sheen revealed during an Alex Jones interview that he questions the "official story" concerning the September 11, 2001 attacks. Sheen stated during the interview, "There was a feeling, it just didn't look like any commercial jetliner I've flown on any time in my life and then when the buildings came down later on that day I said to my brother, 'Call me insane, but did it sorta look like those buildings came down in a controlled demolition?'" Sheen further stated "It seems to me like, you know, 19 amateurs with box cutters taking over four commercial airliners and hitting 75 percent of their targets, that feels like a conspiracy theory."

Later, Titanium-Gecko then released his own satirical version of the NEDM story, nedmbegins.
+
Sheen's remarks were subject to some mainstream media coverage. CNN's Showbiz Tonight discussed Sheen and his theories on March 22, 23 and 24 2006. Sheen also appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live on April 14, 2006 and briefly addressed the issue.

Baron has posted a replica of the original nedmorigins complete with the image used and Doom music. In the site's comments, user OmniIcyshelf claims a role in the origin of the fad, but this as yet remains unconfirmed.
+
In June 2006, Sheen appeared and spoke at the + The Neo-Con Agenda Symposium in Los Angeles, California, a conference organised to discuss various conspiracy theories.

Notable Characteristics
+
Private life
 +
Sheen and his former girlfriend Paula Profit, had a daughter together, Cassandra Jade Estevez (born 1985), but did not marry. Years later, Sheen married Donna Peele. The marriage lasted a little more than 1 year--September 3, 1995 to November 19, 1996. On June 15, 2002 he married actress Denise Richards after meeting her while filming Good Advice in 2001. They have two daughters, Sam J Estevez (born March 9, 2004), and Lola Rose Estevez (born June 1, 2005).

;Cats. : Since the NEDM phrase was coined in reference to cruelty to cats, cats have become a symbol for the fad itself. Although Happy Cat and the shaggy cat from NEDM are usually used to represent NEDM, virtually any cat or cat imagery can be used. Some NEDM sites also incorporate an anti-animal cruelty moral into the concept. For example, nedmbegins suggests that the nonsensical NEDM fad itself is divine retribution handed down by cat gods for humanity's sins against mortal cats.
+
Although Sheen was involved with a number of Hollywood personalities, his long-term relationship with adult actress Ginger Lynn in the late 1990s garnered the most media attention. He was also involved for a time with retired porn actress Heather Hunter.

; Chapstick. : The original YTMND (NEDM) contains an image of a firefighter carrying a cat from a burned house, with the firefighter reassuring the cat it wasn't Doom music. He then asked if the cat wanted Chapstick. The Chapstick remark spread into a running gag within the fad.
+
In 1990, Sheen accidentally shot his then-fiancée, Kelly Preston; in the arm; the relationship ended shortly thereafter.  In 1993, his name was found among Hollywood Madam Heidi Fleiss's list of her most frequent customers, and it was revealed that Sheen hired highly compensated prostitutes from escort agencies. During this time, it was reported that he was addicted to cocaine. In the Empire magazine interview, he stated that he took a bullet for the industry when he was called to the court to testify.

; The letters N.E.D.M. : These are usually displayed very prominently somewhere on the site, oftentimes the NEDM logo appears to be featured for its own sake, which is one of the reasons the fad has been so misunderstood.
+
Denise Richards divorce proceedings
 +
:Main article: Denise Richards: Divorce from Charlie Sheen

; We Interrupt This Programme. : The song most closely associated with the NEDM fad, thanks to Moheevi. The sample from the song is usually preceded by a recording of a text-to-speech program saying the letters "N. E. D. M".
+
On April 19, 2006, Denise Richards filed for divorce from Sheen under the laws of the state of California. In her 17-page court filing, Richards alleged that Sheen's behaviour was increasingly erratic, making their marriage impossible, and that she feared for her safety, and for the safety of their daughters. Richards' filings came days after Sheen's appearance on Alex Jones' radio show dicussing his questions about the 9/11 attacks.

; The Element of Surprise. : While most NEDM sites are fairly obvious, the NEDM elements are sometimes used to surprise the viewer by suddently revealing the happy cat, in sync with the spoken "NEDM" followed by the music track. For example, hemantubgirl starts out as a reference to a different fad, then reveals its NEDM characteristics a few seconds later, as an additional twist.
+

; "Anything." : Recently YTMNDs have been popping up in which somebody says "anything". Right after they say "any", they are suddenly interupted by Happycat's face and the "D. M." part of the "N. E. D. M." message. An example is iluvu, which also has a double element of surprise to it.

Many complain that NEDM is frequently tacked on as a surprise ending to a completely unrelated site. This makes the fad somewhat meaningless, since it could be incorporated into any existing ytmnd for no intelligible reason. The fad sometimes attracts more downvoters than a typical site on the "Up and Coming" list.

Charlie Sheen

Charles Irwin Sheen, (born Carlos Irwin Estevez on September 3, 1965) is a Golden Globe Award-winning and Emmy nominated American actor.

Early life

Sheen was born in New York City to parents Janet Templeton and Martin Sheen, whose birth name is Ramón Gerardo Antonio Estévez. He has two brothers and one sister, all of whom are now actors: Emilio Estevez, Ramón Estevez Jr. and Renée Estevez.

Sheen attended Santa Monica High School, where his two major interests were acting and baseball. His friends in school included Rob Lowe and Sean Penn, and with them, he filmed over 200 amateur Super-8 films. He was a pitcher for the baseball team, and his fastest pitch was 84 mph. A few weeks before graduation, Sheen was expelled from the school for poor grades and bad attendance.

Career

Sheen began acting in 1974 at the age of nine, appearing in a small role alongside his father in the TV movie The Execution of Private Slovik. Sheen's film career began in 1984, and his first major role was in Platoon (1986). In 1987, he starred with his father, Martin, in Wall Street.

Sheen is perhaps best known for his comedy roles, including the Major League films and the Hot Shots! films. In 2000, Sheen played himself in the comedy Being John Malkovich.

Breast cancer advocate

Sheen was the 2004 spokesperson for the Lee National Denim Day breast cancer fundraiser that raised millions of dollars for research and education regarding the disease. Sheen stated that a friend of his died due to breast cancer, and he wanted to try to help find a cure for the disease.

9/11 conspiracy theories

Sheen's remarks were subject to some mainstream media coverage. Private life

Although Sheen was involved with a number of Hollywood personalities, his long-term relationship with adult actress Ginger Lynn in the late 1990s garnered the most media attention. He was also involved for a time with retired porn actress Heather Hunter.
