The "Byrd"/"Barbaric" fad is based on a speech by Senator Robert Byrd on dog fighting. During his speech, he repeated the word "barbaric", to describe the act of "training these poor creatures to turn themselves into fighting machines." The fad started with a site created by Lemonei, which had a picture of senator Byrd, audio from a section of his speech, and the text: "let that word resound."
